I live in northern MN and plan to buy a compact JD in the next year. Winters in our part of the world tend to get VERY cold from time to time. How well do these tractors start in sub-zero temps? Does the direct injection (4200) start better than the indirect injection (4100)? Yes, I plan on installing a block heater. Thanks in advance!

How does this answer the question put forth? Are the Kubotas better at starting than any other brand? I do happen to own a orange tractor and have had days that I needed to jump start in the cold. Any tractor regardless of make may have problems in the bitter cold. So next time please post with some imformation that will be helpful and stop wasting time. your helpful friend, Biff ....

I was just wondering how old "orange" tractor was and if it was an older one or a newer one...I have seen the older ones and they can be a real pain to get going in the dead of winter yet the newer ones will start the same if it is 60 out or -15 out...they really do start a lot better than any other diesel tractor on the market... ....

Hi,One of the biggest problems is just turning over. Use synthetic oil and you get past this.Next use an anit-gelling additive for the fuel. Then allow plenty of time for the glow start, make sure they all work, then you should be fine.Todd ....
